Leader-in-Training Programs

The Extreme Team program is a premier leader-in-training experience designed for youth aged 13 to 15, with the potential for 12-year-olds to join if they demonstrate a strong commitment to enhancing their leadership abilities.

This intensive two-week program equips participants with essential group and behavior management skills while fostering the development of core leadership characteristics.

As part of the experience, Extreme Team members are paired with senior staff, offering them practical opportunities to apply their newfound skills in real-world settings. Over the years, we’ve welcomed youth from around the globe, who have gone on to become outstanding leaders in their communities.

  1. Write a paragraph on why you want to be a leader.
  2. Help senior staff during rotations. Be with your group.
  3. Teach at least one game. A senior staff should observe this.
  4. Supervise one young camper for a morning or afternoon.
  5. Participate in planning a group campfire activity.

Level Two Extreme Team Requirements

The two-week fee is $600.00. This covers the cost of two weeks of camp, two e-books, and an Extreme Team t-shirt.

Campers can register for multiple two-week sessions. The program’s content will change each year, so if your child has been involved previously, they will gain additional leadership techniques.

Camp Kahuna Sleep-Away Camp

If you have graduated from the Extreme Team Program and are registering for our sleep-away camp, you may qualify to apply for an Extreme Team role. This is an opportunity to gain additional leadership experience. The total fee still applies.

Extreme Team members who have graduated from the Extreme Team Program may volunteer at any after-school or PD Day camps and receive additional volunteer hours. Their fees are waived for these events.

The Program

Our leadership programs are designed to draw out the best in each Extreme Team member and to help them recognize that every person has something positive to offer.

Extreme Team members arrive at camp at 7:50 a.m. They spend from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. each morning involved in team-building activities and learning leadership techniques. From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., they work with campers alongside one of our senior staff members. They are fully emerged in the camp program. We made learning fun!

They are led by our Senior Staff, who are caring mentors and role models who can guide Extreme Team members to strive to be their best, gain confidence, and encourage others to be their best. Good leadership is ultimately about asking: what can I do to help myself and the world around me? Scott Graham, founder of Kids 4 Kids and Camp Kahuna, also contributes to the instruction.

Our Extreme Team LIT Program will build confidence and motivate members to gain the hard skills and discipline needed to become effective leaders/camp counsellors.

Objectives

  • Improve confidence, LEARN and grow in a leadership capacity, time-management and communication skills.
  • Develop strategies to overcome obstacles and solve problems.
  • Understand group dynamics, leadership styles and people’s roles within a group. 
  • Obtain skills, knowledge, and experience to become leaders of the future.
  • Recognize that a caring community also means caring and serving others.
  • Earn volunteer hours to obtain credit for your OSSD.

Topics include:

  • How do you present your best self? Building a Strong Personal Brand.
  • Building the Characteristics of a Leader
  • Group management
  • Understanding how to work with challenging behaviour
  • Designing a unique camp program
  • Developing a campfire program
  • How to teach a game

Extreme Team members will be provided with resources to help them with group management and program development.

A Group Lead Opportunity

Before a teacher becomes a teacher, they must gain experience as a student teacher in a classroom. We offer a similar opportunity for you. We allow a few fifteen-year-old members to join their group during a camp week. This is not a paid position but can lead to one. We have chosen Extreme Team members, who we would consider for a position on our staff for the following summer. This allows them to gain valuable group management skills and allows us to see them in action.
